Pregnancy, Postpartum, & Maternal Mental Health

Reconnect with your instincts

Michaela West Ciovacco, LMHC, ATR

There may never be a “perfect” time to focus on yourself. You’re allowed to begin today.

Together, we’ll explore the patterns and underlying causes of your distress while building practical ways to feel more grounded and connected to yourself.

My approach blends traditional talk therapies—including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, parts work, Interpersonal Therapy, and psychodynamic approaches—with creative art expression and somatic practices (aka connecting to your body). I believe healing involves more than understanding your thoughts; it also means listening to your body, making space for your emotions, and reconnecting with the parts of yourself that may have gotten lost along the way.

Our sessions are a space to slow down, reconnect with your body, and make sense of the deeper layers of your experience.

Because you are more than your symptoms, your responsibilities, or the role you play for everyone else.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Art Therapist, I help women understand what’s happening beneath the surface, reconnect with themselves, and find their footing through life’s many transitions—from young adulthood through motherhood and beyond.

I have both clinical and personal experience with pregnancy, postpartum, and maternal mental health. I know how easily a mother’s emotional well-being can get buried beneath the laundry, appointments, responsibilities, and needs of everyone else.

Grief, loss & separation

Grief asks us to make space for what has changed, what has been lost, and what still matters.

Pregnancy, birth & postpartum

You are allowed to have complicated feelings about an experience that changed everything.

Sometimes finding yourself again begins with admitting that you feel lost.

My Approach

Creative Expression

You don't need to be an artist! I pinky promise. Art expression in therapy is about the process—how creating the work makes you feel, rather than how it looks at the end. Art is a tool that can bring us closer to parts of ourselves. As a Registered Art Therapist, I provide a professional space to explore your unique artistic expression. We can include as much, or as little, art making in and outside of our sessions as you would like.

Somatic Therapy

Like psychotherapy for your body. Somatic therapy explores the connection between your mind and body, helping you notice and understand how emotions, stress, and experiences show up physically. Through gentle body awareness, movement, grounding, and other practices, we can work toward feeling more connected, regulated, and at home in your body.

Sometimes it's helpful just to talk it out, especially when your voice goes unheard most days and weeks. I provide the space for talking with additional tools and insight from several talk therapies. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), parts work (similar to Internal Family Systems (IFS)), Interpersonal Therapy, and psychodynamic approaches that look at underlying emotional patterns, relationships, past experiences, and unconscious processes that may influence how you feel and behave today.

Michaela taught me so many ways to deal with my anxiety, without medication! I am so grateful I found her.

Michaela is so incredibly warm and non judgmental. I could truly tell her anything. Things I felt ashamed to admit out loud. She made me feel human again after having my first kid.

She is very grounding and made me feel like everything was going to be ok. Going from one to two kids had me feeling so overwhelmed I was basically paralyzed. She was helpful with how to communicate better with my partner too.

I valued our sessions so much! I've worked with her through two pregnancies! Highly recommend working with Michaela. I loved her guided meditations and art therapy that I could do at my own pace.

Michaela is really good at her job! My "postpartum" seemed never ending and I couldn't find a therapist I could relate to until starting with Michaela. I feel more confident and at ease working with her.
